Administrative resource used against the “Ukraine – Forward!” Party

July 18, 2012

Administrative resource is being used actively against the “Ukraine – Forward!” Party of Natalia Korolevska. Hot on the heels of Kharkiv, where local authorities dismantled all information booths of the Party following an absurd court decision, billboards with “Ukraine – Forward!” ads are now being covered with paper throughout Luhansk.

Billposters explained they had been ordered
to paste over all “Ukraine – Forward!” Party billboards
Head of the Party regional organization and a member of the Political Council Oleksandr Kholopov said today that over July 17/18 night most billboards with the Party ads were covered.
“Most billboards where the “Ukraine – Forward!” Party ads were yesterday, are now covered with blue paper. Billposters we caught near a billboard explained they had been ordered to paste over all “Ukraine – Forward!” Party images. When we called their management, they couldn’t explain these actions and everything was put back in its place instantly. But the rest of the covered billboards are still “beautifying” the city,” – he stressed.
According to Oleksandr Kholopov, one of the owners of the advertising company responsible for the billboards is an advisor to Luhansk mayor, and the other one is a member of the Party of Regions and also a possible majoritary candidate to the Parliament from the party in power.
“This situation is a vivid example of how they start using administrative resource against the “Ukraine – Forward!” Party. In accordance with the Constitution, all political forces have a right to argue their position and communicate it to people. By destroying our advertising they deprive us of this right,” – Oleksandr Kholopov emphasized.
As we mentioned earlier, at the weekend local Kharkiv government issued an order to remove all information booths of the “Ukraine – Forward!” Party from the city streets as following an absurd court decision. Rationalizing it, the court said that crowds of people near the “Ukraine – Forward!” booths “constitute a real threat to the safety of Kharkiv residents and guests during public events, irrelevant to the mayor’s order.” Thus the court violated the right of political parties to spread information and advocate their goals and ideas, granted by the law.
